In a few months, we’ll be halfway through 2019. How are your New Year’s Resolutions going? If you’re like most people, you’ve likely forgotten what those goals were, even if one of your biggest goals was to lose weight, tone up, or simply get back in shape this year.

With summer around the corner, now’s the time to work hard, so you can look and feel great during the warmer months. Here are some top ways to improve your health this year:

Make small changes

The biggest mistake most people make when they decide to get healthy? They try to overhaul every aspect of their lives at once. They make massive changes to their diet, commit to working out five or six times a week, quit alcohol cold turkey, and wonder why their ‘new lifestyle’ only lasts for a couple of weeks.

If this sounds familiar, you need a new approach. The best thing you can do is make small, gradual changes, so you can slowly get used to them. For example, if you usually drive to work, consider parking a few blocks further away so you have more time to get some exercise. Instead of eating in four times a week, cut it down to three, and cook a healthy meal at home. Gradually increase the changes and you’ll find it much easier to stay on track.

Get a workout buddy

Finding time for the gym can be difficult. After all, we’re all busy people. But the more muscle you have the more calories you’ll be burning even when you’re sitting at your desk. Plus, strength training is crucial for women, as it can help you fight off osteoporosis. If you loathe the gym, consider trying a new class. Let some of your friends know about your commitment to getting back in shape, and see if anyone would like to join you. Knowing you have a workout buddy weighting for you will make it much more difficult for you to skip the gym.

Quit smoking

It’s hard to get back in shape when you’re gasping for breath. By now, you’re well aware of the health impacts of smoking. Of course, cigarettes are one of the most difficult things to quit, which is why it’s a good idea to replace smoking with vaping. There are many different e liquid flavours, and you’ll find that vaping is also a lot less anti-social since you’ll no longer be smelling like cigarette smoke.
